Made a fatal error today. One which I make roughly once a year. I responded to a pointed comment posted on Facebook. A public comment that was designed entirely to provoke discussion. I am an idiot.
Firstly, arguments made behind a computer screen are not useful in my eyes. Secondly, no matter how fair and careful I try to be, I always get a thoughtless response by somebody who doesn’t think in any remote way similar to myself.
This is my original post:
Maybe it was fair maybe it wasn’t. But then somebody replied with this:
I have written and deleted no less than 11 messages in response. After thinking about it and thinking of all of the points I wanted to make, the one that stood with me so resolutely was this :
This person is not going to listen to me. Nothing I say will change this. I am wasting energy just by typing.
And there lays the most important response: to not respond at all. 🙂
