I don’t understand why a breast feeding woman is being used to advertise sports wear?
I have no problem with breast feeding just like I have no direct issue with other people’s religious beliefs or sexual preferences, you do you and I’ll do me.
But this is advertising. And it makes no sense to use this to advertise other than to shock. So to people saying normalise it, no that’s not what this is doing, it’s jumping on the bandwagon of the breastfeeding debate and using womans boobs to sell in a different way. It’s still objectifying and sensationalising women’s boobs.
Why on Earth would a woman wear an over jacket with no underwear on, no bra or support, and be breast feeding her baby in public holding a child like that? It’s not even a summer top that might be worn without a bra. It’s a SPORTS JACKET. I REALLY don’t understand when on Earth I’m likely to see something like this in real life. Just like most advertising; completely pointless crap aimed at the most gullible and sheeplike humans.
Nobody is going to buy this top because you can breast feed in it. Any mum’s I know aren’t restricted by clothing, they are restricted by some socially created debate about whether you should breast feed in public, fuelled by women in revealing tops getting their entire boob out to do the job making them feel anxious and self conscious.
I care for breastfeeding the same way I care for children making noises, children running about etc etc, its perfectly normal for children to do these things but when in a restaurant there should be restrictions for the comfort of other guests. Ive been to restaurants with ecsquisite cuisine for a nice evening out, not to see someone’s boob, baby attached or not.
Clubs have dress codes, why can’t restaurants? I’m not saying go to another room even, just cover it! Not because I don’t want to see boob and I find it offensive or don’t understand what they’re for, but because I don’t want to see boobs HERE whilst I’m EATING. Believe me, I’d be equally offended if there was a woman sat there with her boobs just out in a fancy top. Or a man with skinny revealing trousers or a child screaming. It’s just etiquette, and MANNERS to keep some things away from certain areas like boobs from restaurants (and rowdy children from non family restaurants)
Boobs are for breastfeeding, yes, that’s WHY men like them in many cases, the primal instinct kicks in when they see them. Woman can be self conscious about their own boobs when someone with nicer ones walks past, and seeing it all out is just too distracting for some men. Think of the wives of those men. It’s not about training those men like dogs to not like looking at boobs.
I bet most people are just fine and breast feed just fine in public without a big fuss made. I barely notice and if i do it’s usually a glance because someones come into my eyeline. And as soon as I notice, I look away. Not because I’m embarrassed or offended, but because I wouldn’t want to be stared at and I would want a woman going about her life doing her own thing to be able to do it with out getting anxious that someone might be watching.
I just don’t think sitting with your boob out in a restaurant comes under ‘doing you’re own thing’, particularly when there are so many covers and discreet tops nowadays.
Now if I was sat in a park or a shopping centre my view would be different. You could walk about with a chainsaw in the air I wouldn’t bat an eyelid let alone a boob. These places are not meant to be discreet they are public areas.
