Don’t you just love our society? Do you ever look around at the Vegans and protestors and the single use plastic brigade and think how amazing society is. It’s like we all saw Wall-E and went
‘nope. Let’s do something about this.’
It might get up the backs of most people at times, but in reality all that is happening, is the intelligent people don’t want to be fat slobs who have to run away from the planet. We don’t want convenience over our world. We know so much more about the world now that we want to save it.
Convenience became a thing at a time when cooking and housekeeping was a chore you had to do around the time you spent socialising and going out. We don’t need such conveniences anymore. Not like you need to get the washing done quick so you can nip down the offy or head out for a pint. The 50p per unit price has kissed goodbye to that past time. People don’t go out anymore. Look at town. Any town. Friday or Saturday, the only people who really populate town centres are students and drunks. Everyone else is either at work (60 became the new 40 hour working week) or squeezing in keeping house in a frustrating technological age where home admin requires long call queues and confusing letters.
Keeping home is no longer about conveniently keeping things seemly up together with single use/throw away/bad for you/ chemical filled products. It’s about health and well-being, understanding and knowledge of our bodies and our planet and where things come from.
Isn’t this an amazing example of our brilliant school system. People now THINK about these things. Even people who don’t understand and follow a trend, they still picked this trend not a clothing trend.
All of sudden keeping our houses tidy and clean, our clothing clean and our family fed is a past time. It used to be because we had to, then advances in many avenues allowed us to save time, now we have both the time savers and the original ways of doing things and can make a choice. and many people are making the choice to keep their home in their spare time. Be a mom in their spare time. Being a mum full time is down to whichever childcare station you let your previous croutchfruit attend but that’s another rant.
People want to spend time cooking, spend time sourcing an appropriate ratio of zoflora to water for their Ikea laminate. They want to spend time upcycling and messing about with machines or technology.
This is fantastic. Look what humanity has managed to change in the modern western world. It’s managed to show that humans care. Don’t hate us for that. You probably are the reason we care. Your votes, your education, brought a generation of people who care and want change in a way you didn’t expect (like every generation does I suppose).
As I say to mum whenever she tells me to stop looking things up and asking why, just accept what she says; “you spent a great deal of money on an education that taught me to question and think, don’t blame me now I’m questioning and thinking about things”.
Rarely hear the good things about vegans or education.
Now all I can imagine are a few million light bulbs appearing above heads when Wall-E came out in the cinema for the first time.
