Some people swear by oil of Olay, some people swear by John Freda or bedhead or pantene or clinique or whatever the latest fashion for hair and face creams is.
I swear by the basics:
- A bar of soap. Any kind really. I’m currently sporting Palmolive which is 99p for 4 bars in tesco. One bar in each bathroom lasts around 2 months. That’s 25p a month. Bargain. That’s my face wash, my body wash and, more often than I care to admit, my shampoo as well.
- Waitrose own brand rosehip scented shampoo. Because its £1 a bottle, I get a 20% as I have a mywaitrose card, it smells lush and gives me a reason to go into Waitrose. Also it lasts ages due to frequently forgetting to take it into the shower with me, whereby I end up using whatever soap is on offer. See bullet point one.
- Dry hair shampoo. Any kind, but if I have a choice (or If I’m not paying for it) it’s Batiste ‘volumising’ that’s first pick. I use it more frequently than I use my shampoo. It allows me to carry on in normal society when at home I’m a mess. Nobody would know if had or hadnt washed my hair. Mwahahaha fooled you into thinking I was a functional human being didn’t I, and it only took 30 seconds to do!
- Talc. This stuff is a godsend. For the chub between your legs in the summer. For also covering up the i-havent-had-a-proper-wash-in-days smell radiating from my feet when it’s 30 degrees out and I need to wear sandals to work to avoid looking like an idiot. Also for dry hair shampoo when I have either run out of the stuff or can’t find it. See above point.
- Men’s deodorant. Any brand. But must be one of those hard things that looks and functions like a glue stick. Miles more accommodating than women’s deodorant albeit more expensive.
- Last but not least, the medication I take that does the job of clearing my skin whilst helping prevent cancer appearing in it again. A lush side effect of this is a reduction of sebum, the liquidy stuff that sits on your skin. Whilst I still sweat from sweat places, most of the rest of me stays dry and pong free. Yay!
I guess everyone has different reasons and policies for their beauty regime. Mine is purely to avoid having to have a beauty regime.
Roughly once every couple of months I’ll go on some clean living kick. But most of the time the effort to get in the shower and all the fuss that goes with it is just not on the agenda. If I can get away without it, I will. And any beauty product that can help further that without undue expence, is a winner in my book!
